Let's Play Mindreader with...Al Davis!

This will probably become a recurring feature on the blog, where we try to figure out what's going to happen in a situation where the mainstream media has no clue whatsoever. Guesses of any kind are worth 3 Sports Guru points, with 15 additional points given if you can guess correctly. So, let's play Mindreader!

Of the many NFL head coaching positions that became available shortly after the regular season, Oakland's has been the most challenging to figure out. No one seems to know what Al Davis, pro football's elder statesman of madmen, is thinking. Do you? Leave a comment saying who you think will coach the Raiders in 2006.

I'm guessing they'll go with Tim Lewis from the Giants.

Davis has always been more fond of the offensive side of the ball, so I think he'll go with an O-coordinator. The hot name right now is Ken Whisenhunt of the Steelers, who managed to make Pittsburgh's offense run pretty darn well despite losing their main vertical threat, Plaxico Burress, to free agency last offseason. I'm thinking Davis wants to see what Whisenhunt would do if he had Randy Moss and Jerry Porter to play with. Not to mention, Pittsburgh's ground game was good yet again this year, and Davis wants to see more production out of LaMont Jordan.

You might be right on that one. I figure that Lewis should at least get an interview under the minority hires program.

I agree that Lewis should get a shot, but since Davis has had 2 weeks already to call him up, it's probably not happening. They've already interviewed San Diego WR coach James Lofton, so they've satisfied the Rooney Rule as well.

I'm going to go with current Raider's quarterbacks coach John Shoop. He's cheap, in town and will bow down before Lord Vader...I mean Al Davis.
